What The Paleo™?

So What Exactly, is the Paleo Diet, Anyway?

In a lot of ways, it’s the diet you were always meant to be on. All natural – check. No processes – check. Anything that can be hunted or picked – double check. That’s really all there is to it!

What follows is a comprehensive list of all the Paleo Diet foods that you need – from meats to veggies to fruits, nuts, seeds, oils and more. Yes, there are even Paleo Diet desserts – but let’s not put the cart before the horse, so to speak.

Not only will this give you a great starting point for the Paleo Diet adventure that you’re about to go on, but trust us – it’ll also get your mouth watering at the same time!

Paleo Meats

The good news is that almost all meats are Paleo Diet-approved by definition. Though it’s true you’re going to want to stay away from meats that are high in fat (think: spam and other types of meat products you probably don’t want to eat anyway) and highly processed meats, this list is long and delicious. Think about it like this – if it used to moo, oink or make some other type of adorable sound, it’s almost certainly Paleo approved (yes, even bacon – but don’t go nuts).

The better news is that almost all vegetables are on the Paleo Diet, too! Again, you’ll want to stay away from vegetables with a high starch content (so go easy on those potatoes and squashes), you’ll find a huge number of other delicious items to choose from depending on your needs. Just pay attention to starches, carbs and sugars compared to the nutritional value that certain vegetables contain.

Paleo Fruits

Paleo Diet-approved fruits don’t just taste great – they’re also great for you! Fruits contain large amounts of fructose, though, so you’ll definitely want to cut back on the fruit intake and eat more veggies if losing weight is your number one priority. Having said that, feel free to enjoy one to three servings of Paleo fruits PER DAY as a tasty treat!

Believe it or not, fats don’t actually make you fat – carbs do. Because the standard American diet is lousy with carbs, this poses a problem for many people. Natural oils and fats are actually the way that your body prefers to create energy, so do yourself a favor and give your body what it is asking for! If you need a little-sustained energy boost to get yourself through the day, try something on this list!

Paleo Nuts/Seeds

Who doesn’t love a nice, healthy handful of nuts (there has to be a better way to say that)! All you really have to do is be careful of things like cashews and peanuts, which are high in fat and very easy to eat gobs of in one sitting. If you’re trying to lose weight above all else, limit the number of nuts you’re eating per day. Otherwise, feel free to go… well, nuts. Because who doesn’t love a good almond/pecan/walnut nut mix? We’ll tell you who – nobody, that’s who.
